Hi Jim,

I've cleaned oilstones first with a stainless steel metal pot scrubbie pad and dish detergent and warm/hot water in the sink. Then I put the stones on the top shelf/rack and run them though a medium wash cycle in our dishwasher. I try to open the door before it goes to the dry cycle. I run them through sometimes twice to get them clean. Then allow to cool slowly and let the water fully evaporate- maybe a week - before I try to assess flatness and true it up. I've used diamond stones to flatten oilstones if the dishing isn't too great.
