The horizontal book matched panels are not the result of inspirational design creativity(see discussion on main board). I had some, as it turned out greatly flawed, notion that this construction would be easier than a panel normally encountered in this kind of desk. A panel normally found in this kind of desk should have been a clue that normal usually means most easily done.

The result is acceptable. I'm still getting used to the look of it. I've got some nice drawer fronts to go with this case.
