The stuff I got from hearne is a lot like hard maple - some bits of the billet are nice and others are contrary. It can be planed, though.
It has the kind of obnoxious resistance to heavier planing that hard maple does. Interesting that you say yours moved. I'd bought mine to make planes and never used it (Fortunately), as even though it was kiln dried and is quartered, it twisted pretty significantly over the next year or two.
