Given my insistence on the plane thing, I didn't find it really out of line at all. I still send people to your plane sharpening video when they say they're working in a vacuum and want to know how to sharpen something - follow the steps, have success. Even if one moves away to another method later, they do so with a good sense of what properly sharp (all the way to the edge) is.
