That’s a really good tutorial. Back and forth between lap and file is something that is new to me, but I like it—ordered a new Simonds file as a matter of fact.

The best thing I liked about it was the approach to go slightly hollow, then lap to final surface. To get to flat, first go concave. I use this approach on edge joining—work from the center of the board outward, until a fine set just scrapes at the center, then go full length a couple times for final passes. The progression of shavings give you a topo map of the edge, without any other diagnostic. Very similar to what you did.
