Yes, you can plane this board. Some combination of sharp iron, close cap iron and light cut will surely work. I don't recommend a stainless steel blade.

I always plane a surface entirely in one direction with continuous strokes for best visual effect.

One of the advantages of preparing stock by hand is that by the time you are ready to smooth for the finish you are well acquainted with the grain pattern.
