Some of these tools are specifically for excavating the corners when string frames a drawer, for example (1st on left). The second from the left is a punch. It is impossible to scratch the end of a dead end channel to depth. The punch is used at dead ends to punch a crisp ending to the channel. Other tools are used to dig out crumbs that stick in the channel.
I take great delight in scratching these geometric patterns. It is precision work. Strategy is involved. I scratch from the outside in. Why? because scratching the next arc in will cut the end of the previous arc and make a perfect mating of the end of the outer arc with the next innermost arc. These strategies reveal in the practice rounds.
