I am near the end of caning a chair. I only need a few strands of rattan to finish but all the rattan I have left is two sizes wider than what I need. I'm considering splitting these couple strands to get the right width. Anyone ever done this? got any hints on ways to do it? I'm going to try a blade in a block of wood with a stop at the right thickness and pull the strand through.Sounds clumsy but it may work.
