Subject:
Laziness..

David Weaver
Hi, Wiley - out of laziness and family time, I haven't put much together further, but I've been experimenting as my spouse isn't going to accept the level of tint with a simple oil stain. At least not on cherry.

My experimentation has gone from applying shellac right over wet stain, not even wiping all of the excess stain off (the french polish evens it out) to applying water based dye, then french polish and still using a different tint of oil stain as the oil for the process (dye too dark in this case to tell if that made any difference). Still worked well (oil directly into the damp dyed surface wouldn't have worked that well).

If I can get my ducks in a row, I'll make a video of polishing the front of one of the door panels.
