Not a good idea, unless the chess set is just for show in your den or library (or man-cave in the current vernacular). I used to play competitively. In a tournament, if you sat down at a table for a match, and produced non-standard Staunton chessmen or a non-standard board, your opponent could, and almost always did, demand that you remove it and replace it with a standard set. This concept is fair, like a "level playing field."
