Steve, I totally agree with everything you wrote. What I was unsure about - either because this was not made clear, or (likely) I was being too dim to understand - why the need for such fine chrome powder. I recognised that it was really not going to add much to an edge.
In my own situation, I use Veritas green compound on hardwood as final step to ensure that there is no wire remaining. That is why I complete only 3 strokes. Unlike Sellers, I am not trying to smooth off a rough edge - although some may argue that a Sigma 10K and 13K, which I use, are not fine enough and would benefit from the green compound. Perhaps they do.
