I couldn't find a hit on either of those on google for a while, but realized that if the text string is kept sequential, it turns up a pretty long history of variants. "for a six pence", "for a pence", "skin a fart to chase a nickel down the road".
My relatives had a gift for never using profanity but still talking in a way that you'd be afraid to bring polite company around them.
