Re: Farm sayings about stingy..

I think the family farm has gone now (not totally, but it's disappearing fast). We still (we being my parents, not me - I wish) own our farm, but it has been rented for over 25 years now.

The renters used to be farmers, but now they're corporate business owners who farm as a hobby and the last two have signed the contract and then the people who show up in the fields are subcontracted.

I couldn't name anyone in my school who grew up on a farm and is still working on it (my school was rural).

The ball of string is familiar, rubber bands, strings, pencils. When I went to my grandparents' house as a kid in the late 1980s, it was a thrill to get the pencil box out because they had pencils that still needed to be made wet to write (we licked them - I have no clue about the backstory about them or what they were made of), and the rest of the writing instruments were promotional material. They wouldn't dream of throwing away the old pencils in favor of something easier to use.
