..I'm sure there are hundreds, but my mother was always cheap, and would keep cutoffs from the local pole building place and eventually force my dad to cut them to shape (santa clauses or whatever) and she'd paint them and sell them.
When you grow up in a rural area, especially if it's a rural german area (way different than urban german), everyone accuses everyone else of being cheap, but most of the people who have two nickels to rub together are actually cheap (and tax sensitive).
My mother's common saying (and she'd point out that you were using junk wood and turn around and use it herself - thrift double standard, I guess) would be to accuse you of "being so cheap that you'd skin a fart for a nickel".
