From what I have read about the process the writer got most of the words right but they had no idea what they were trying to describe. As I understand the process a colloid of alumina is "magically" assembled into shaped larger particles of desirable shape, which in turn are fused into hard shaped particles of aluminum oxide. These particles are then assembled into some shape for use -grindstone or sharpening stone.
The unique feature of the shaped particle is that bits chip off its surface restoring sharp edges that mill shavings from hard metal while preserving the bulk particle size. Bottom line fast, cool material removal with shape preservation (as it applies to grinding wheels).
