Steve was likely in his mid-40’s then. He wrote the most memorable piece on it Scary Sharp but the original description came from Dave Opincairne, an apprentice patternmaker. Dave learned it from pattern makers; the method had been used for many years. We were all members of Rec.woodworking.
I recall buying both 1000 and 2000 grit w/d sandpaper at an auto body shop, then.
