looked up an MSDS for "harvey's no 1" toilet ring.

the only ingredient was "slack wax"

Which google search says is unrefined paraffin wax. Interesting that it's nearly identical in looks to beeswax (dark yellow or brown). Never smelled (a new) one, I'm sure they don't smell the same as beeswax.
