Re: Anyone ever build a chess set?

Rum
Not a full set but I've done replacement pieces for a couple of sets. Getting exact duplicates of existing pieces is in some ways harder than getting exact duplicates of a completely new design. Making shadow patterns to match against can help, at least for sizing the elements correctly.

I've also read

Woodturning Chessmen (Darlow's Woodturning series)
by Mike Darlow
Paperback, 2008

several times in anticipation of doing something more interesting. It's a really good basic set of designs and construction theories.
