If the "wire" is critical then toughness is the metric of importance. M2, while greatly harder and more abrasion resistant than 0-1 will not be as tough. M2 steel is what is most likely in your jointer knives and many lathe tools. In any case I have a thick M2 planer blade and I am anxious to try it today.
