Thanks the pictures gave me exactly what I was looking for. Now I understand Deick's post above.

So if you don't have the fancy Tormek jigs, how hard is it to grind a square edge on a wide plane blade? Particularly using a standard tool rest which is what 90+% of woodworkers have.
