That pretty much sums it up. In the ballpark ratio-wise. Earlier was 2 to 1, this is slightly less, but hard to tell either way.
Sap beech would be a bad choice for planing to failure testing, though!
The favorable wear pattern on the other picture may just be a matter of favorable wood. I'll remember to take more pictures of the edge here in the near future. As this test has wound down and now I'm interested in making a few irons of XHP, it'll just occur along side of getting back to building guitars, and scribbling together the report of the findings in the other numbered tests so that we can post them somewhere with the pictures.
