I turned this one orange, but the reality is these bits will drill mostly wood. They reharden when they cool, and probably enough that it doesn't matter (i freehand sharpen them on a grinder or belt grinder, so it's a lot like wood plane irons - I'm not offended by a short life iron).

It seems like (as you say with the colors, just remove them), I should be able to get away with cutting the ends off of these bits and regrinding a new tip on them. I'll just do it and confirm.

The only crying point is that the factory tip and flutes that come on these bits are to die for. they will cut your fingers.
