Re: Fear of heat- not an issue

Hi Bill,

There can be no doubt that the solution you put forward is the low-cost solution. This is a very significant benefit for many. I would encourage anyone considering investing in a grinder to read your comprehensive ‘how to, and why’ in Articles at this site. A competent 3600rpm grinder and wheel can be had for a fraction of the cost of the options we have been discussing in this and related threads. It does require touch and know how to avoid blade-burning, which is why reading your article is a must.

Question: Finding the right wheel will be a head-scratcher for many. Can you be specific, or provide an actual link, to where one can find a 6”, 7”, or 8” wheel, or crowned wheel, of the proper softness? I did a quick check of MSC, and the softest wheel I could find was K—it may be I didn’t look hard enough.

I also went to Travers Tool, and could only find wire wheels. Again, the fault lies with me I’m sure. However, I suspect others would have the same problems searching for an H or I wheel. Or crowned wheel of a stated softness.
