A little late in replying to this, but this catched my eye:

I expected to find with this test that LV's tales were a little tall. I'm not above proving myself wrong, though.

The little tall story was that LV suggested in their sales literature that PMV-11 sharpens about twice as slow as O1, but wears 9 times as slow in wood. That was kind of hard to believe. (http://www.pm-v11.com/TestingIntroduction.aspx)

Your test though suggests that PMV-11 wears twice as long as O1 while I found that it sharpens twice as slow indeed. So there is no magic after all.
