I chose a slightly shorter piece of beech for this go-around, and the work was smooth.
3000 feet is just a figure, but all of the planing is very easy because the irons cut well for all of that. The pain in the rear is the point where the irons start coming in and out of the cut and you have to pay more attention to make sure you're not contributing to it.
It would be lovely if you could just plane until they come out of the cut once and stop, but that wouldn't be reliable.
Very idealized compared to dimensioning, though, where you do a lot of work just to get to a few continuous shavings and you're done.
