Do you have the Ln in bronze or iron? Is the Record sole iron or steel? If the Record were steel, it would have a different feel, and worse, than either bronze or iron. You could make an inference about this by waxing the soles of both the LN and Record planes, to see if the difference in feel goes away.

These differences should not affect test results, however, only feel. I do recall numerous beefs from years ago about the degree of concavity of the sole on the newly reissued Records (is yours vintage or one of the newer ones?).
