While this well done study provided guidance on chisel selection for the tasks used, I don't think the results will predict the performance of these steels in a plane blade.

That’s not what I said, Bill. I said that there was a similarity. The paring in my assessment was done with a plane (to simulate paring), but it was still planing and wear.
