Hi Bill,
Here’s my semi-tongue-in-cheek assessment of this vital matter:
International System of Units (SI) says that gram is abbreviated ‘g’, and is separated by a space from the numerical amount. Thus, 1000 g.
The no-space ‘g’ is still free to be pressed into service for ‘grit’.
