Re: Observations on wear after 400 feet planed

Planing at .0025 until the plane has trouble staying with the cut is not something I ever do. I think I do most work at the upper end of sharp.

I have been to 8 or 10 hand tool events. I have seen Japanese planes giving a surface like what I am used to with vintage irons, but all of the A2 planes, even ones freshly sharpened, they all fall short of quality. I don't really know if this is sharpening technique or a quality of the steel.
