Out of curiosity, I checked nj steel baron to see what the price of bar stock is, and it's about $40 per plane iron equivalent, add milling and grinding and heat treat, and they'd probably have to sell for at least $125.

It isn't the honing that bugs me with irons like that, it's how slow they grind. People who hone the entire bevel will find them pretty gross, though.
