I did what you said using just a stick of pine. Roughing with a fillister and bench plane. Adjusted and sharpened the iron.

It really does make a beautiful profile. There’s one problem left—shavings pile up on the face of the cove section very quickly. Need to get in there with a float, and after that will show what the plane produces. Really is a handsome profile.
