I have a set

Bruce, a MN Galoot
that I got at Aldi’s last fall. I took them home, honed the edge and tried it on some maple. The edge promptly folded. So, I let them sit there, unused, until today. After reading your post I went to look at the edge and found that the bevel is ground at about 22°. I re-honed at about 30° and found that it behaved quite well, didn’t fold or chip. The back needs all kinds of work, but they’re not bad at all. If nothing else, I’ll save them for the one neighbor I have that I wouldn’t trust with a dull cold chisel.
