Re: Mike Brady - Phil Lowe's Chisels

Warren in Lancaster, PA
I bought some Aldi chisels out of curiosity, but otherwise have not bought a 20th or 21st century chisel in 35 years. I have never owned a Japanese tool.

I know four blacksmiths who are capable of making 18th century style chisels, the kind that a journeyman cabinetmaker could buy for roughly an hour's wages in the 1790's. I tried to order chisels from two of these but had no success. One was quite put off when I said he did not have to bother making a handle. How could a woodworker make a handle as fine as a blacksmith?
