Re: Cutting oil with oil stones?

Read the label on the cutting oil. It warns you of its toxicity. Do you want the additional effort of using nitrile gloves every time you need to sharpen something.

I prefer 20 weight non-detergent motor oil. I think it's very similar to 3-in-1 honing oil, and at least two orders of magnitude cheaper. To clean off swarf and to keep the stone from gumming up, I clean it with WD-40.
