David — Good tip on the tightening of the screw causing a slight tilt on the iron. That was easy to correct with my brass hammer. I also found your technique for adjusting the blade depth by loosening the screw and moving the plane forward on the wood. That worked for me.

I changed the battery in my small (5 pound max) postal scale and still got the same weight reading. I should have another kitchen digital scale in hand Tuesday and will check the weight again. Meanwhile my next step is to reshape the cutter on my old Tormek. Will try to achieve a slight camber.
