In the 18th century Windsor chairs were most often painted with green oil paint. However, in the Federal period they started having more diverse colors and also paint used as decoration. Chairs with the bamboo turnings usually had another color at the nodes of the bamboo.

Jack's chair would be similar to very early 19th century chairs that would have had more adventurous painting.

If you want that old fashioned 20th century look, paint with one color, then paint over with a darker color and rub through with sandpaper for fake wear spots.
