Wow, check out this layout I managed to do! *PIC*

I've been worried ever since I started laying out my washtub cello, that when I actually get to the point of putting strings on it, the bucket will crumple. Finally just this morning I realized where almost all of the stress will be, which is directly against one side of the circle, where the tail exits-- and I was able to lay out a brace to support the bucket here, and cut this joint. The angular mortise that I cut in the brace interlocks with the taper of the dowel, makes the brace absolutely immobile when it locks in place. Nothing glued of course. It's essentially a dovetail I think?
