Where to find "real" varnishdavid weaver
Does anyone sell real varnish any longer (without spending a huge amount for 8 ounces from a violin maker, etc)?
I'd like some to finish guitars, and I recall George Wilson saying that about 20 years ago, all of the true varnishes (even basic Sherwin Williams standard varnish was excellent for instruments prior to that) changed due to either supply or environmental rules, and nothing now is like old varnish without cooking your own.
Behlen "rock hard" varnish, and other such things are out. They're not similar to old varnish, and rock hard is a naming trade mark (they are no such thing).
