Subject:
French polishing help

Brian Holcombe
Every few years I like to torture myself with an attempt at French polishing with shellac (as opposed to wax polishing that I believe was actually done in 18th century France).

This humidor seemed to be calling out for a french polish, but after going over the box with 4f pumice then rottenstone a dull spot called my attention. Looking closely it does not seem to be bare wood since the pores are filled. Before I attempt to wax this, or start over and simply oil it, I'm wondering if there is something else I should attempt at this point to correct these blemishes?

Thanks gents.
