I was very curious to see how you'd respond to that plane.

I like mine quite a lot, and I think that they absolutely nailed the functionality and ergonomics. At the same time it's an "aggressively nontraditional" design, and those can be quite polarizing.

FWIW I have a second iron for that plane that's back-beveled by a few degrees, reducing clearance immediately behind the edge to 9-10 deg. I did that to beef up the edge a little while preserving the plane's end-grain cutting performance. The only catch with doing that is that you have to refresh the back-bevel every so often to prevent loss of clearance from wear bevel.
