I'm not sure if there will be much difference with dulling, but it would take someone using all of the plates to figure it out. On the monocrystalline plates, I doubt any ever come close to wearing down due to the diamonds themselves, but rather because the diamonds are pulled from the surface. They're certainly ineffective when they're no longer on the plate.
The reason CBN doesn't make as much sense from a producer's standpoint is that it costs more than diamonds, and offers no ad.
My first question with Vince's CBN plate (and I have a lot of respect for Vince, because he pushes to make stuff more affordable without making junk, and that means it gets into more peoples' hands) is how flat is it? there is a market for a diamond hone among turning enthusiasts to touch up or finish skews, etc, but we'll have to wait until a few people buy them and report on flatness when doing something like flattening a new iron.
I think I probably have somewhere between 8 and 10 full sized diamond hones, and I haven't bought one in a long time. It's going to be a while before I have an excuse to buy anything similar - esp. given that the Atomas get a little slower each year, but they aren't giving up.
