That's really high-quality portraiture work. The really good action types wouldn't scoff, because they're self-aware enough to know that they can't do that (especially the "subject interaction/management" part) any more than a typical portrait specialist can shoot motorsports or ski races.
The other thing with pro-level bodies is that they're engineered to the nth degree for responsiveness and rapid operation (once you've learned to use them, which is not simple). I don't shoot action sports much any more and don't really need one, but once you've used them extensively they're awfully hard to give up. I can make basically any adjustment I need near-instantly, without ever removing the camera from my eye. near-infinite 16 fps bursts of raw images. In summary you almost never have to wait for a Pro-level camera.
The "ancillary stuff" costs a lot more anyway when all is said and done.
