Help speeding up my sharpening routine

Gary B.
I've been thinking about my sharpening routing lately. truth is, I'm not sharpening as often as I know I should because it's inconvenient, and stops my workflow. the tools of my current method include an 8" x 2" combination waterstone (1000/4000 grit) I purchased years ago from lee valley, and their green stuff, on MDF.

The trouble is I've stored the stone dry, as I didn't like the stagnant water situation when storing it wet. I tend to soak the stone before use for 10-15 min. So, when sharpening is needed, I'm out of the woodworking game for 20-25 min (soaking, then sharpening, flattening the stone and putting everything back). What are others doing with waterstones to make it faster?

I've been watching the diamond stone craze (Paul Sellers and others) and am envious of a method that would get me back to work in a few minutes. If diamonds really are that much better, then I'd consider moving to them.
