Subject:
Teeth rake angles on rip saws.....

roger lance
I've got two LV back saws.....the 14 t.p.i. dovetail rip saw and the 12 t.p.i. carcass rip saw.....that I'm thinking of increasing the teeth rake angle of the first inch or two to make the saws easier to start.

The LV dovetail saw comes with a 14 degree rake and the carcass saw has a 10 degree rake.

I'm considering modifying the first inch of the carcass saw to 20 degrees and the second inch to 15 degrees.

The dovetail saw could have the first 1 1/2" modified to 20 degrees of rake.

The question is....is this a reasonable approach ?......worthwhile?.....etc....etc. Any suggestions or experiences much appreciated.
