Question to shellac usersBill Tindall, E.Tn.
I ordered some Garnet shellac to be used on Spice boxes. I used it on the ones I made some years ago. I liked the way it looked on walnut. Its redness overcame some of the fading walnut suffers over time.
So I made up a 25 wt % solution (let us move on from the archaic pound cut) of the new stuff and sprayed a test piece. It's yellow. I don't mean yellowish, its yellow. Sprayed on a white piece of paper and it is a pure yellow color...no hint of red to make it even slightly orange.
What's going on here?
It would be dandy to make walnut look old. the test piece looks like a 10 year old walnut piece that has been in a sunny room.
