Latta recommends this approach for those wanting to avoid tell tale traces of how the pattern was made, which I accept has become the current fashion.

Another way to make these patterns is to pattern rout them with a Dremel tool and 1/32" cutter. This approach leaves no compass points.

When I hand scraped my living room floor level I left a few minor chatter marks in the surface as evidence that it was done by hand. Perhaps it is this same philosophy that leads me to revealing to the scrutinizing observer how the door pattern was made.
