I'm not a good enough woodworker to get a really crisp dovetail joint using half inch and thicker white pine. It's so soft. But then a lot of people aren't - the telltale sign being wavy arrises giving away the fact the joint was cut rich for a crush fit. The lines always give it away. The first part of the joint (pins or tails) have to be cut absolutely flawlessly straight to make the second part crush fit not give the strategy away.
