None of this makes sense to me, but then I have not read the review and the details involved. I do not even know who wrote it.
To lump PM-VII in with "super steels", such as 3V, M2, M4 and D2, with regard the issue of sharpening completely misses the reason for PM-VII's conception. The whole point of PM-VII is that it offers a long lasting edge with the same effort and materials used to hone A2.
There is no extra expenditure for sharpening materials if you can already sharpen A2 steel. For your money you get a significantly longer lasting edge, around twice as long as A2 - I have been using one for 12 months now and can attest that this is a fact. What's not to like about a longer lasting edge, especially when you work with abrasive timbers? Did the reviewer evaluate this area?
I'll wait until my mag comes out to comment on the review. All I can respond to are the comments here, which are second-hand.
