Couple questions () James Watriss
It can take a bit of work to make sure that everything lines up properly. It gets easier with practice, but one of the virtues of the jig is that yes, you can add auxiliary padding to help. The chop and the back of the vise are drilled to accept 3/8" dowels to allow me to use auxiliary pads or set up blocks to help. I'm sure that there are ways to mount some sort of production stops to the thing, too, but I'm not there yet.
The saw blade is a Japanese style blade, made to fit a frame saw. It's a little grabby at first, but the knife-like shape does a very good job of scribing its own lines on the back-stroke. At some point, I may get around to installing a western style blade, but this one's been working well so far.
