I made myself a pretty heavy mallet a bunch of years ago that I still use. the head is apitong, scavenged from some heavy industrial dunnage. the handle is oak, probably red, probably a cabinet project cutoff. anyhow, it has been a good tool.

this mallet is for bashing chisels through timber- not for adjusting planes
